Achthoekige diepe Kakiemon schotel op voetring, opstaande kant. Versierd in onderglazuur blauw, ijzerrood en groen. De acht wandvakken aan de binnenzijde zijn elk versierd met een cirkel op een blauwe grond met daarin om en om een schubmotief en een vliegende phoenix; om de cirkels als hoekvulling een driepas-vormig motief in wit uitgespaard. De rand met evenwijdige schuine strepen en schuimkop-motieven. Het centrum is onversierd. In de wandvakken op de buitenzijde eenzelfde cirkel met driepas-motieven in blauw, om en om gevuld met schubmotieven in groen en cash-motieven in ijzerrood. Onder op de bodem het zes-karakter merk Jiajing in een cirkel. Bruine rand.
Deze schalen horen wat versiering betreft thuis in de groep die kenjo Imari (geschenk-Imari) genoemd wordt. Karakteristiek is de wat stijve, formele versiering, hier sober uitgevoerd. Kenjo Imari ontwikkelde zich rond 1700 en kende een bloeiperiode in het begin van de 18e eeuw. Ook later werden dergelijke formele versieringspatronen toegepast, maar ze missen de kracht en de kwaliteit van de vroegere voorbeelden, terwijl de emailkleuren minder rijk en gevarieerd zijn. Degelijk porselein werd in eerste instantie voor de Japanse thuismarkt gemaakt, maar kwam sporadisch ook naar het Westen. Soortgelijke schalen in gewoon Imari uitgevoerd hebben soms een vergelijkbare versiering, waarbij de cirkels met het schubpatroon zijn opengewerkt.

Two octagonal deep saucer dishes, upturned edge. Decorated in underglaze blue, iron-red and green. Inside each of the eight side panels a decoration consisting of a circle on a blue ground containing alternately a fish-scale motif and a flying phoenix. Around the circles to fill the corners a three-fold motif reserved in white. The rim with parallel diagonal lines and crested-wave motifs. The centre is undecorated. On the outside in the side panels a similar circle with three-fold motifs in blue, filled alternately with fish-scale motifs in green and cash motifs in iron-red. On the base the six-character mark Jiajing in a circle. Brown rim.
